There has been a lot of controversy in the community about Global Ultimates over the past few months. The overpowered pushing and ganking ability of Twisted Fate has led him to being banned in most ranked games and banned in almost every tournament game held in the past two months. This was cause for concern for the developers of Riot. The consistency of the bans means something is overpowered with TF. The fact that Twisted Fate can be At any lane to gank almost instantaneously from level 6 on means he’s one of the best gankers in the game, along with one of the best split pushers in the game.
If you don’t bravely troll the League of Legends official forums or furiously stalk the Riot staff like I do, you may not know of the upcoming changes to global ultimates, namely Twisted Fate’s Gate/Destiny and Pantheon’s Grand Skyfall. Morello recently posted on the forums what will happen to TF and Pantheon in the patch on next Tuesday.

This patch, we’re getting the long-awaited global teleport tech, which allows us to limit the range of global teleportation abilities.
This means Pantheon, next patch, will have less teleportation range than on live currently. This is a big opportunity for us and you to shape the direction of Pantheon’s changes – we want you to try him with the new range and tell us what you think he’ll need to be fun and viable again. Changes could range from numbers to skill reworks, anything really. We have ideas, but we know you’ve wanted this for awhile – let’s get together so our team can deliver what you want more effectively.
To answer the TF concerns, we are not planning TF buffs at all. We’ll see how much this actually effects him, since he’s a must-ban right now, buffs don’t make much sense.
Pantheon is considered really weak however, so we’re lining up buffs here, but wanted to gather your feedback as well.
Like most of the community, I’m excited for these updates. We’ve already seen a preview of these limited global ultimates in the form of Nocturne’s Paranoia. Nocturne doesn’t seem to be under-powered in any way. In a similar fashion, if TF’s Destiny/Gate still reveals champions on the entire map, but only allows a limited distance to teleport, I think that will be fine. I still want to see what Riot has in store for Pantheon buffs and if it will make him viable again. It seems the would need to change his ult to be similar to Nocturne and Twisted Fate to have either additional effect. They could also just take off the charge time and make it a smaller channel.
My verdict? Its a necessary change that will both tone down one of the strongest and most annoying Champions in the game and buff a champion that needs some much deserved love.
Thanks for reading. Until next time,
EDIT: New information. Morello had posted that TF’s ulti range will now be 5500 Range. This is a little more than twice the distance between the outer and inner mid lane turrets.
